The project – Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Samanway Kshetra – is a prestigious Government of Assam conceived in 2009 to commemorate the great Ahom king Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha who was the Founding King of Assam. So great was the contribution of Swargadeo (Heavenly King) Siu-Ka-Pha that 2nd December every year (the day on which this Great King entered Assam) is observed as “Siu-Ka-Pha Divas” by the People of Assam, also declared as “Assam Divas” , a Government Holiday, by the Government of Assam.
Furthermore, every third year, a prominent personality of Assam (or outside) who has been working towards the goal of achieving integration and amity amongst the people, is bestowed with the prestigious award “Siu-Ka-Pha Award“.
The board of the Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Samanway Kshetra includes Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Mr. Tarun Gogoi, as Chairman, and Dr. Birendra Kumar Gohain, retired I.A.S. Officer and Literary Authority in Chaopha, the Ahoms and their Traditions, as Vice-Chairman, and numerous officials and literary figures across Assam, who have come together to build this unique amalgamation of history and knowledge.
The Kshetra includes:
(1) The Siu-Ka-Pha Memorial
(2) The Museum Block, containing the Museum of Imperial Assam, the Ethnic Museum and the Natural History Museum
(3) The Auditorium
(4) Administrative Building
(5) The Arts & Craft Center, including an Art Gallery, Craft Bazar, Shopping Arcade and a Banquet hall facilities.
(6) The Artisans’ Village
(7) The Guest House
(8) The gate structure
(9) The Cultural Court/Gardens
(10) The Open Air Theater
(11) Dancing fountains, garden patches, Bihutolis, Flagged walkways
(12) The Boundary walls, a portion of the front wall having murals depicting some features of Assam history
In addition, an Amusement park and food kiosk(s) will be constructed soon.
It is located in Jorhat, Assam (India) and will be the Cultural and Education Center of Ahoms, and the traditions and cultural heritage of Assam.
The inauguration of the Kshetra took place on 2nd December 2015 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Mr. Tarun Gogoi. Currently, the General Council of Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Samanway Kshetra is chaired by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam.
